Looking for something to do with the children or grandchildren this summer? The Lightbox gallery and museum in Woking, Surrey, has been shortlisted for the Telegraph Family Friendly Museum Award 2014 in association with Kids in Museums. There are only six museums on the shortlist.

The Telegraph article described the gallery and museum as a unique addition to the list:

The Lightbox, in a stunning building by Marks Barfield (of London Eye fame) in Surrey, focuses largely on art, making it unique on this shortlist. It engages directly with its community, inspires creativity for all
ages and abilities, exceptionally so, and has a brilliant Young Curators’ programme.

The six museums that have made the short list have been chosen from more than 800 nominations for The Telegraph Family Friendly Museums Award 2014. The judges who made the final selection were led by Jenny Abramsky, chair of Heritage Lottery Fund and included the Game of Thrones actress Hannah Murray, historian Helen Castor and children’s author Damien Dibben.

The shortlisted museums will be road-tested anonymously by families using the Kids in Museums Manifesto as a guide. If any families are interested in being the mystery museum judges to help pick the winner, then you can email [email protected]. Families can also order a free copy of the Kids in Museums Manifesto from [email protected]. The winner will be announced in theTelegraph on 28 September 2014.
