'ODYSSEY'
A long journey in which many things happen
27 June – 18 July
Beth Carter | Kathy Dalwood | Tessa Farmer | Patrick Haines | Damien Hirst | Cathy Lewis | Rebecca Louise Law | Koji Shiraya
‘Odyssey’ is a collaboration between bo.lee projects and St Edmund in the City and brings together a collection of artworks which meditate upon the varied routes we may take in life, but reminds us of the one common certainty. The journey of life is marked by death as a spectre that waits patiently in the wings, its presence reminds us of the truly fleeting nature of our earthbound existence. Each of the works on show responds differently to the inevitability of death and, in interaction with these sacred spaces, inspires fresh reflection on our own life's journey.
‘Odyssey’ at St Edmund in the City is the second venue on the exhibitions journey, first showing at Bath Abbey in May 2013. The selected works, often in monochrome, play to the notions of the light of life and the darkness of death. Works include Saint Bartholomew Exquisite Pain by Damien Hirst, The Flower Garden Display'd – a beautiful organic sculpture of 4,600 flowers by Rebecca Louise Law, and The Battleship by Saatchi-collected Tessa Farmer, who presents tiny skeletal fairies on a voyage of discovery
‘Odyssey’ will examine art that serves as more than an aesthetic - art should challenge, question and create reflection.
