News is coming in that one of Charles Rennie Mackintosh's masterpieces - The Glasgow School of Art - is on fire. No one has been hurt but the historic building is evidently suffering major damage as firefighters struggle to extinguish the blaze. The BBC website has the details.
Mackintosh and his wife, Margaret Macdonald, were both students at the previous premises of the building. Mackintosh was later commissioned to design the new building, one of the most important in the city, built in two stages over 10 years from 1897.
