Edward Hopper's caricatures on show in Nyack, New York

Until 13 April 2014, the Edward Hopper House is showing ‘Edward Hopper’s Caricatures: At Home with Ed and Jo’ in the Arthayer and Ruth Sanborn Gallery.

The show presents 15 caricature drawings by Edward Hopper.  Hopper created these intimate drawings as a way of expressing his innermost feelings to his wife, Josephine (Jo).  

Also showing is ‘Painters and Paintings of Rockland County, NY: The Hopper Years’ in the Main Gallery, curated by Mark Waller.

This exhibition marks the 30th anniversary of the Edward Hopper House’s exhibition,‘19th Century Painters and Paintings of Rockland County, N.Y.’,curated by Lynn Beman.  This updated presentation brings some of Rockland County’s lesser-known artists into focus, providing a backdrop to the art created in the county during the life of its most famous son, Edward Hopper.  Artists include A.B. Davies, Hayley Lever, C.K. Chatterton, John Mowbray Clarke, John Costigan, Hal Robinson, Jacob Getlar Smith and many others.  An illustrated catalogue will be available.

About the Edward Hopper House

The Edward Hopper House is the birthplace of American artist Edward Hopper (1882–1967) and was his primary residence until 1910.  Since 1971 the Edward Hopper House has been a not-for-profit art centre with a mission to preserve Edward Hopper’s birthplace and to encourage community engagement with the arts.  The house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
