The Glamour of Italian Fashion 1945–2014
Until 27 July 2014
Italian fashion has been renowned since Renaissance times – in 1520 an observer at the Field of Cloth of Gold (a diplomatic exercise to reinforce the friendship between England’s Henry VIII and France’s Francois I) complained that the French ladies were wearing Italian fashions.
An exhibition currently on at London’s Victoria & Albert Museum charts the rise of Italian fashion in more recent times, fromthe end of the Second World War to the present day. It includes both women’s and men’s wear to highlight the exceptional quality of techniques, materials and expertise for which Italy has become so well known. On display are around 100 ensembles and accessories by leading Italian fashion houses, including the next generation of fashion talent.
