Lund Humphries celebrates 75th birthday at the London Art Fair

London publisher Lund Humphries will be celebrating 75 years of art-book publishing with author events at the UK’s largest art fair for modern British and contemporary art – London Art Fair, 2014.

Tuesday 14 January, Preview Day, 4–4.30 p.m.

Kurt Jackson has specially created a textile centrepiece entitled ‘A Bee in the Booth’ for the Lund Humphries Stand (S1).

The artist will be signing copies on publication day of the new edition of Kurt Jackson Sketchbooks and of Kurt Jackson: A New Genre of Landscape Painting.  Jackson will also be drawing attention to the plight of British bees with Andy Atkins, director of Friends of the Earth. Jackson is a keen supporter of the organization’s Bee Cause campaign. The stand will also include a drypoint print entitled Give Bees a Chance, available in a limited edition of 50 at www.kurtjacksoneditions.com  A limited edition print of the bumble bee painting to raise funds for Friends of The Earth campaign is also available to buy at The Redfern Gallery at Stand 42.

On Thursday 16 January, 11.30a.m.–12.30p.m.
there will be  a discussion in the Talks Theatre with Alan Powers and Neil Jennings onEric Ravilious: Modern British Art and Nostalgia.

In his recent acclaimed book Eric Ravilious: Artist and Designer, Alan Powers refers to the unique popularity of this artist at present, reflected in rising prices for his work, and a proliferation of reproductions and greetings cards that form part of a wider trend in collecting, publishing and online appreciation. Neil Jennings of Jennings Fine Art, who specializes in works on paper by Ravilious and his contemporaries, will join Alan in a discussion of the reasons for the Ravilious boom and its relationship to nostalgia.

Is Art Really a Good Investment? A panel discussion in association with Sotheby’s Institute of Art to launch Melanie Gerlis’ new book in the Talks Theatre.

In the Chair: Iain Robertson, head of art business, Sotheby's Institute and joint series editor of Handbooks in International Art Business; with Melanie Gerlis, art market editor of The Art Newspaper and author of Art as an Investment? A Survey of Comparative Assets  and Jamie Anderson, director, Waterhouse & Dodd.
