From Riots to Reparation

Rosalind Davis, Solo Show.

Exhibition ends 14th November 2013

This exhibition by Rosalind Davis takes as its starting point depictions of destruction from the 2011 summer riots in Tottenham.  Addressing the possibility of transformation and reparation of space through acts of creativity, Davis’ mixed-media paintings portray an unfolding, complex set of possibilities for both physical and psychological space. Davis’ work is as dynamic as the story she is telling – of destruction, displacement and the process of creativity all within the context of the urban environment.

Using a range of surfaces – paint, photography, drawing, vinyl adhesive and embroidery  – Davis creates paradoxical visionary landscapes and structures. Interior and exterior space are both suggested and made physical in her art. Every medium is as symbolic as it is relevant. Photographs capture a sense of reality. Paint and drawing indicate the disparity between the imagined and what is real. Embroidery reminds us of the human and emotional connection between environment and landscape.

Drop in and meet artist Rosalind Davis to hear her insights into the exhibition: Saturday 9 November between 2-4pm.

General Opening Times: Weds-Sun, 1-5p.m.
