14–17 March 2013, Olympia II, London
In response to hard economic times and encouraged by a desire to live more ‘conscientiously,’ the UK has seen a big resurgence in crafts of all kinds over the last few years (see Jenny Kingsley’s article coming up in February’s Cassone).
UK retailer HobbyCraft has opened 15 new stores since 2009 and research in September 2012 by insurance provider Simply Business found a 29% increase in arts and crafts shops on the high street and a 44% increase in fabric shops. Knitting groups are springing up in local pubs nationwide and there is a visible increase in the number of craft titles found on the shelves of newsagents.
The Spring Knitting and Stitching Show brings together the various elements of this resurgence, providing the products, tools and tuition to Make It Yourself; make your own clothes, gifts or interiors… the list is endless.
This exciting new show will tap into your creative side while providing great ideas to help you save money and cut down on waste.
Over 180 companies will be selling all sorts of hard-to-find craft supplies, and there will be a huge choice of workshops to help you learn what to do with them!
‘Making’ is the essence of the show, with inspiration everywhere, as well as experts on hand to get you started.
Take a seat in the Home Sweet Home ‘living room’, offering a range of interiors projects to freshen up your house or flat. Make a Roman blind, renovate some old furniture or pick up ideas for your baby’s nursery.
Join the production line in The Dressmaking Factory, which offers quick lessons on all kinds of dressmaking techniques, from buttonholes to hems, seam finishing to zip insertion.
Among the designs on view will be entries from the show's Fashion Competition for Schools and 6th Form Colleges. If you’re aged 16 to 21 and you’re interested in fashion, this is a fabulous opportunity to express yourself and show what you’re made of – both in terms of fashion design and sewing. Enter the competition at www.twistedthread.com
And if your real passion is knitting or crochet, there will be loads for you too with many contemporary and well-known knitting designers and authors joining us. Learn how to knit one purl one; find some fresh project ideas, and buy supplies and patterns to create some unique pieces for the home, for your baby, for you.
Join the ‘making’ craze and visit The Spring Knitting and Stitching Show from 14 to 17 March 2013.
