The Young Photographers’ Alliance have a new group show ‘Home’: YPA Mentoring 2012, which opens at Margaret Street Gallery on the 8 January 2013.
The YPA charity was created to nurture young photographic talent, helping photographers aged between 18 and 29 to develop both the technical skills and business acumen required to build successful and sustainable careers.
‘Home’: YPA Mentoring 2012showcases the images from this year’s YPA Mentoring Programme, which links emerging artists with established photographers and picture editors/art buyers, teaching the mentees how to work to a brief while honing their technical skills and creative approach. The small teams of young photographers are collectively assigned a common brief and are given two months to deliver their final projects. The exhibition itself features one image from each of the UK mentees and a small selection of pictures from the US and Thai teams. Metro Imaging is producing around 40 prints for the show.
Metro Imaging has been an active supporter of the YPA charity for two years and views it as one of the most important schemes in its mentoring programme, to which the company is dedicated. Individual staff members from Metro provide one-to-one mentoring to the young photographers, passing on industry knowledge, advice and information as well as support in what can be a very tough and competitive industry. Metro Adobe UK jointly sponsored the ‘Best in Show’ prize, which was awarded to Sarah Amy Fishlock.
‘Home’: YPA Mentoring 2012 YPA exhibition is open from 8–17 January 2013 at Margaret Street Gallery, 63 Margaret Street, London, W1W 8SW
