A Magical Christmas for all ages is taking place at Kensington Palace, London, the childhood home of Queen Victoria. A series of Christmas festivities from 1–24 December mark the Palace’s first Christmas since it re-opened after a £2 million refurbishment in March this year. Turning the Palace into a very special advent calendar, 24 giant mirrored baubles – one opened each day at 2pm – reveal a treat inspired by the Christmas diary entries of the young Princess Victoria. There will be something new to see and do at the Palace on each of the 24 days, and music will fill the State rooms every day, adding to the pleasure of a visit in this special month.

In addition, on 5 December from 7–8.30p.m.,  there will be an evening of carol singing in the King’s Gallery, by the Chapel Royal Music Choir of Hampton Court Palace, with mulled wine and mince pies (tickets £10). And, on 13 December, from 7.30p.m. until midnight, a ‘dress-to-impress’ Midwinter Masquerade Ball will be held in the Palace Orangery, for 300 people (adults only; tickets £20). Entertainment for ‘An night of unseasonal revels...Snow Queens and Jack Frosts welcome...’ includes performances by a fire-eater and an escapologist. Finally, on 20 December (with further tours until February 2013), there is an ‘Eerie Evening Tour’, to explore the Palace after dark, starting at 6.45p.m. (tickets £25).
