Edvard Munch’s iconic The Scream (1895), among the most celebrated and widely recognized images in art history, will be on view at MoMA for a period of six months beginning on 24 October. A haunting image of a hairless figure on a bridge under a yellow-orange sky, The Scream has captured the popular imagination since the turn of the 20th century. The painting will be installed in the Museum's galleries for painting and sculpture along with a selection of Munch prints drawn from the Museum's extensive collection of his work. The Scream is being lent by a private collector, and will be on view at MoMA through April, 2013.
The Scream was not included in the recent Tate Modern show of Munch's 20th-century work; there are several versions of the painting in existence and one was shown recently in Edinburgh.
