Last few days to submit to the £30,000 Threadneedle Prize

Deadline for submissions for The Threadneedle Prize is 12 noon, Wednesday 23 May.

As the UK’s most prominent competition for figurative and representational painting and sculpture, the prize has been increased to £30,000.

This makes The Threadneedle Prize the most valuable competition in the UK for a single work of art.* The competition sets out to promote and encourage excellence. Experienced and emerging artists are encouraged to submit fresh and intriguing works that are strong and topical observations on the world around us, using a variety of mediums, styles and approaches, with an overall focus on the quality and confidence of the finished work.

A panel of selectors will choose The Threadneedle Prize winner from a short-list of six artists. The winner will receive £30,000, and the five other short-listed artists will each receive £1,000. All works selected for the exhibition are eligible to win the £10,000 Visitor’s Choice Prize.

For the first time this year, The Threadneedle Prize is open to artists living or working in Continental Europe, as well as those in the UK.

* Only the Artes Mundi prize offers a larger financial award, however the Artes Mundi prize of £40,000 is awarded for a body of work rather than a single work of art. The Turner Prize is worth £25,000.
