Sean Henry contributes to Crisis auction in May

Sculptor Sean Henry has announced that he will contribute to The Crisis Commission Gala Auction at Christies,  King Street, London on the evening of Thursday 3rd May 2012. This is an unrivalled and exclusive opportunity to purchase new works by some of the most celebrated artists working today in aid of the national charity for the homeless, Crisis.  
 
After being inspired by the exhibition at Somerset House, Sean Henry kindly donated a work of his own, stating:

Sean Henry’s medium-scale sculpture of a single standing figure is a humbling contribution to The Crisis Commission. A continuation of a sculpturally realistic practice, John has a poignant presence, his face quizzical with his arms falling by his side. Henry was inspired to make John after a chance encounter with a homeless man in near the steps on Tabarth Road, Central London. Despite gaining the homeless man’s permission to sculpturally re-create him, Henry never established John’s second name. Isolated from the rush hour traffic, John had been homeless for eight years and has been hardened by the time his time on the street. For a medium-sized sculpture, standing at 31 inches tall, his bold face displays strength and intensity.

The artworks for sale are highly unusual; produced by artists of the highest calibre united by a single cause, they present genuine responses to the theme of homelessness. Antony Gormley, Tracey Emin, Sir Antony Caro, Yinka Shonibare, Bob & Roberta Smith, Nathan Coley, Gillian Wearing, Nika Neelova and Jonathan Yeo were commissioned by Crisis to create major new works.
