Water in Landscapes - a new show in Bath

A new mixed exhibition on two floors at the Quest Gallery until 8 March

A new exhibition at the Quest Gallery, Bath, features a wide range of fine and applied arts ranging over two floors.  

 ‘Water in Landscapes’ features the paintings of Robbie Wraith, Harriet Barber, Toby Wiggins and Victoria Gamberoni.

Robbie Wraith has been a prominent artist with the gallery in two major exhibitions in past years.  Four of his works will be on show.

Harriet Barber is an artist living and working on the Dorset coast. She is uncompromising about painting in situ. Her landscapes and seascapes are painted, from start to finish, on the spot – with the view in front of her. Her work has continued on the solid technical foundation that she gained during her postgraduate degree at the Slade, under the tutelage of Euan Uglow.  

Toby Wiggins is also based in Dorset.  He trained at the Royal Academy Schools in 1999.

Victoria Gamberoni lives and paints in the West Country. She is a member of the Bath Society of Artists and the Armed Forces Art Society.  She regularly runs painting courses in England, France and Italy. Victoria has won numerous awards including, in 2007, the Brownsword Prize for the best picture at the Bath Society of Artists annual exhibition at the Victoria Gallery, Bath. In 2009, she was presented with an award by The Prince of Wales at the AFAS exhibition at the Mall Gallery, London; at this year’s Bath society exhibition at the Victoria Gallery she was awarded the Ian Black prize.

In recent years Victoria has made painting trips to the United States, Mexico, India, and North Africa and, annually, to Europe. Her recent work focuses on people in the workplace and within the city; her figurative work has moved towards semi abstraction while retaining the traditional English strengths of line and composition.

In the Applied arts, the gallery is showing a new piece of Slovakian glass by Vladimir Zbynovsky.  His work involves draping high grade optical glass over stone.

Newcomer Asot Haas is showing a stunning tower of laminated glass.

With silver, ceramics and jewellery, this exhibition is guaranteed to cheer up any winter gloom.  There is new silver from Sidsel Dorph-Jensen and Vladimir Bohm and sculpture by John Mitchell.   In addition Quest’s the lower exhibition space is open, with work from major artists such as Nigel Hall RA and Victoria Achache, and another chance to see work from artists shown recently, such as Justine Eavis, Antonella Scarpa-Isles, Felicity Keefe and Ann Gover.  There are sculptures by Arabella Brooke, ceramics from Pippin Drysdale and Keith Varney.

The gallery is open daily except Sunday from 10 a.m. till 6 p.m.
