Lectures at Dulwich to mark the Jubilee

Dulwich Picture Gallery is marking the Queen’s Jubilee with its seventh impressive Contextual Lecture Series.  The Jubilee Series will be launched on 3 January 2012 by Professor Lord Peter Hennessy on The Queen as a Heineken Lager Monarch: The Parts of the Constitution that only She can Reach.

This inaugural lecture is followed by 18 eminent scholars and authorities on the major themes relating to Monarchy, including David Starkey on Henry VIII, Anne Sebba on Wallis Simpson – Duchess of Style or Duchess Defamed? A.C.Grayling on Descartes and his Royals and Lucy Worsley on The Secret History of Georgian Kensington Palace. Richard Thorpe will review The Queen and her Prime Ministers from Churchill to Blair and Robert Lacey will speak on Elizabeth II – The Inside Story. Lord Butler examines The Order of the Garter and David Hilliam Crown, Orb and Sceptre – A Thousand Years of English Coronations.

There will be Book Signings at the close of selected sessions.

The series will begin and close with an evening drinks reception in the Gallery’s cloister.  All the other lectures will be held on Tuesdays throughout the year, taking place in the Linbury Room.
