Her Majesty The Queen and HRH Duke of Edinburgh will be coming to Margate tomorrow (Friday) to visit Turner Contemporary.
This will be a great honour and endorsement for the gallery which, since its opening in April, has received wide international acclaim.
In the gallery’s first seven months there have been more than 300,000 visitors (against a forecast of 156,000 for a whole year) from around the UK and the world. Turner Contemporary has already played a significant role in the regeneration of the town and the wider area.
On Sunday, Turner Contemporary won two prestigious British Guild of Travel Writers' awards, the Globe Award for an outstanding tourism project and the Best UK Tourism Project.
This follows the award of The Best use of Arts and Culture in Regeneration at The Regeneration & Renewal Awards 2011 and the Condé Nast Readers Choice Award for Innovation and Design.
In the summer, The Times named Margate and Turner Contemporary as the top UK destination for ‘Cool Culture’.
