‘Women and War’: Jenny Matthews at Farleys Barn Gallery

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to see the work of award-winning conflict photographer Jenny Matthews. It will be a rare opportunity to see her earlier black & white photographs alongside her latest colour photographs. From conflicts in Central America in the 1980s, through the tragedy that was Rwanda in the 1990s, to present day conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, Jenny has been there to record how wars, both official and unofficial, effect innocent people, especially women and children, caught in the middle.

The exhibition will take place in the sleepy village of Chiddingly, East Sussex, at Farley Farm House, the home of Surrealist artist and biographer, Sir Roland Penrose, and of his wife, Surrealist muse and war photographer, Lee Miller – whose work directly influenced Jenny’s.

Farleys Barn Gallery is a traditional Sussex barn, which was sympathetically converted into an art gallery by Antony Penrose seven years ago, and is the perfect setting in which to see Jenny’s work – the juxtaposition of rural Sussex and the still images of suffering innocents is striking and not to be missed.
